The internet is very important for me. Not only does it allow me to browse the internet, and watch cat videos on Youtube, it also handles the telephone lines including the emergency call box for the elevator. During the winter, it will heat the ground to 54°F when there is a chance of precipitation. This is a safety issue. All of these things are important, and more than just cat videos. And while I will obviously use the internet for everything internet (including cat videos), there is so much for me. This will be why I will have 2 internet services.
One will be Verizon’s FiOS? at the 2GB plan. This is synchronous which means upload is just as fast as downloads. This will be ideal when I am uploading very large files, and installing Word Press on a new website. And yes, I know – 2GBPS is overkill sine most consumer grade devices is just 1GBPS connections, however as Wifi? becomes more capable, and the fact that my LAN? is 10GBPS – 2GBPS is not as much of an issue.
The second connection will act as a backup, and selected in case there is a terrestrial issue causing the FiOS blackout. This will be to use Starlink’s satellite internet service. Their best plan does not seem to offer the connection speed, so I am going to guess it is 500MBPS. While not FiOS fast, it is fast enough to meet my needs. And while I am sure I will notice a slight difference, the internet is an important part of not only my life, but the needs of the house.
